WELCOME TO THE JUKEBOX!

My name is Frank M. Young, and I've been collecting records (and comics and other pop culture items) my entire life. In recent years, my musical focus has been on vintage 45 rpm records (known as singles) rather than record albums.

The 7" single was introduced in 1949 and was an industry standard for close to 50 years, when vinyl records became a boutique item rather than a part of popular culture. Records never went away: they were shoved aside as the CD dominated commercial music. Now the CD is seen as old-fashioned, and many people have returned to vinyl as their source of music.

I will debut a weekly podcast of recordings from my collection of over 2,000 45s, most dating from 1955-1967. Each podcast will hold about 25 recordings--rhythm and blues, rockabilly, pop, country, instrumental, girl groups, soul, novelty...I will focus on records most people have never heard or even know exist! In-between songs, I'll offer tidbits about the music and its performers.

"Frank's Jukebox" began during the pandemic as a daily feature on my Facebook page. With the 500th post of the daily Jukebox approaching, I've decided to switch to a once-weekly podcast. We'll see how this goes--whether people are able to make the switch from a brief daily dose to a weekly mega-blop of music and blab.

Each week's episode will have a link to a file of the show you can listen to in-app or download.  A track listing with all pertinent information will accompany each posting.

Soon, I'll have a book out called "Dig: Confessions of a 45 rpm Junkie," published by RedWing Blackbird Books. When the book is published, there'll be information about it.

I hope this will not be a big folly and that you'll come back every week for a brand-new episode! Watch this space for future developments. First episode should go live in a week or so.
